Thursday, May 23, 2019

The Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce held its 75th annual general meeting on 21 May 2019.

Mark Skelly, founder of Red Hot Business Coaching, was newly appointed to the role of President. Newly appointed to the Vice President role was Dave Morgan of LINK Business Broking.

There were three Board members voted in, including newly elected Tony McKone of McKone Consultancy. Hayden Kirk of Layer3 and Andy Barker of Media Giant and Cloud Edge, were re-elected to the Board.

Outgoing Board members were thanked for their efforts and contributions over the past 18 months. The period was a challenging one for the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce but has ended with a significant turnaround in performance.

Special mentions were made of co-opted members, Mike Gould, Partner at Gibson Sheat and Tony Stallinger, CEO of Hutt City Council. Both had served on and contributed to the Board for a substantial period of time.

Outgoing President Neville Hyde’s contribution to the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce was recognised by CEO Helen Down. “Our special thanks go to Neville for his huge contribution to our Chamber over many years. I would like to also acknowledge Neville’s generous act of stepping into the role of volunteer Acting CEO during 2018 and leading a very successful rejuvenation of our Chamber.”

Neville Hyde reported to members, “Our Chamber is in good spirit and health. The local economy is showing encouraging signs of growth. There are several large and small developments underway across the valley.”

The AGM recognised the contribution made to the organisation by conferring life membership on Charles Peterson, past Board member and President during 2000-2002.

Newly appointed President, Mark Skelly, said, “I am delighted to take over the reins as incoming President of the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce. It is a vibrant and energetic Chamber and an important voice for a diverse business community.”

The new Board met for the first time on 23 May 2019 and considered which additional members to co-opt, based on skill sets required.
