Celebrating the Best of Business

Wednesday, October 2, 2019

In its 13th year, the Wellington Region Business Excellence Awards is set to once again celebrate and recognise dozens of businesses that reflect our vibrant and successful business community.

This year there are 12 categories including: Manufacturing, Innovation and Technology; Hospitality and Tourism; Trades and Services; Professional Services; Small Business; Not for Profit; Best Emerging Business; Young Person of the Year; Sustainability; and Excellence in Retail. An ultimate supreme winner for 2019 will also be announced.

Recognising Retail Excellence

Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce CEO, Helen Down says, “This year we’re pleased to add ‘Excellence in Retail’ as a new category. Retail often gets a bad rap but there is a new breed of retail businesses emerging and the time is right to showcase these businesses. Many retail businesses are carving themselves a strong niche in the community whether they are online, in a physical store, or in fact a clever combination of the two. Recently there have been several new retail offerings unique to the region which give our community and our cities colour, character, enjoyment and of course, new jobs.”

Huge Recognition

On winning the Supreme Award in 2018, Neos Systems’ Antony Lummis reflected, “It was a great night for my business partner Nick Thompson and I. Winning the award was huge recognition for the team. It was all down to their hard work in building the business and ultimately, Neos providing the very best IT support to our clients locally, nationally and overseas.”

Giving Local Business a Voice

Helen Down added, “To be the voice for local business is a very important part of our role at the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce. Providing opportunities like this, to showcase the diversity of excellence in businesses throughout our region, is so necessary, as is highlighting their contribution to our communities. The Wellington Region Business Excellence Awards provides a stunning lineup of a very diverse, progressive and innovative group of businesses, made up of truly inspiring people, including employers and employees from all walks of life.”

The highlight of the annual business calendar, The Wellington Region Business Excellence Awards black tie gala event, will be held at the Lower Hutt Events Centre on Friday, 22 November. As Wellington’s most modern and well-equipped events centre, it has quickly earned its own well-deserved reputation of distinction.

Unmissable Entertainment Lineup

The event is expected to attract up to 500 guests. The Master of Ceremonies is one of New Zealand’s most sought after and well-known television and radio personalities. The live entertainment, provided by a top-class musician and singer, will be talked about well after the event and is sure to delight.

“As the year starts to wind down, this event is a great way for many businesses to show their appreciation to the staff and customers by hosting them to a fabulous night out with plenty of glitz, glamour, entertainment, great company and of course, a very special dining experience that is sure to wow,” says Helen.
